• Tips and tricks for a healthy rose bush!

    Silence, it’s gardening!!!!!

This promised summer you will be able to have your rosebush in full bloom and health. We will provide you with all our care tips so that your rose can flourish. Watering, pruning, choice of fertilizer, association with other perennials, and other gardening tips: discover all our best tips to take the best care of your roses.

    The secrets of perfect watering!

In the first years, watering your roses is not to be neglected. It is advisable to dig a basin at the bottom of the roses, covered with mulch to maintain moisture. In very dry weather we recommend that you gradually water a 15 L watering can at the roses‘ feet every 15 days. And so it is

promote the growth of the rosebush and allow it to flower more abundantly.

When summer comes, you can water them once a week, avoiding the foliage of course. It is better to water copiously than by drip watering.

After its first two years, it is necessary to moderate the watering of the roses. From 4/5 years old the rosebush has the ability to draw water from deep within.

    On your marks ready TAILLE!!!

On sunny days it is important to do a small spring pruning to boost their flowering.

“Botanical” roses do not necessarily require regular maintenance pruning. Their flowering takes place on the twigs of the following year.

The size of the roses will only be irregular, spaced 3 to 5 years apart. It will simply be necessary to thin out the clumps that have become dense, by completely removing the dead or excess branches. If properly maintained, a rosebush will regenerate much more easily and last for a long time.

For upwelling shrub roses, their size should be considered as a summer flowering shrub. It is therefore necessary to take care of their size at the end of winter by leaving a framework adequate for their development. This will give you a good annual vegetation, a greater number of flowers and a better distribution of flowering.

A little advice in addition, if you prune your roses regularly enough, by removing the wilted flowers, you will avoid the formation of fruits and seeds. This will allow your rising rose to flower again.

  • The followers of the whole thing do it themselves!

You want to save money, eat healthy and homemade, so why not make your own jars of fruit or vegetables, meat, fish or sauces. Sterilization can be frightening, but we assure you that it is not rocket science and guarantees optimal hygiene and promises you many advantages.

    First steps!

Let’s start by defining sterilization, it simply consists of removing all the air from the jars. The primary purpose of sterilization is to make your jars waterproof. To do this, the jars will be immersed in boiling water (over 100°C), which will remove all living organisms.

Then, the hot water that has been initiated in the jars will then turn into water vapour, and thus allow the air to be removed from the containers.

Finally, once the steam has cooled, a “vacuum” will occur, which will allow the jars to be hermetically sealed during closing.

    The benefits include

Sterilization is a practical trick that allows you to keep your food much longer. Indeed, fruits and vegetables can be kept for example between 6 months and 1 year if they are stored in sterilized jars. Without sterilization, your cans will tend to expire more quickly.

In addition, sterilization offers much more optimal hygiene conditions, as all organisms in the jars are eliminated, so you will not have any fear when consuming them, your food will not rot. Above all, you will have the satisfaction of telling yourself that this is homemade and made by you.

    Recipe idea

  • Les arrosoirs guillouard ! The history of the watering can, the timeless beauty of your gardens!

    Let’s start at the beginning.

Timeless, useful, and even decorative, the watering can is the basic tool of the real gardener. The history of the watering can is fascinating, and it would take pages and pages to tell you about it. But do you even know what the first watering can was? Originally, the watering can was just a goatskin that was used to transport water from point A to point B. Then, as the years the watering can has seen its shape evolve. At first the watering can saw its shape change to “chantepleure” it took the form of a funnel, had no spout or handle and closely resembled the fruit of the coloquinte. Then over the years the watering can became much more rounded in shape.

Plastic, copper or zinc, it’s up to you?

Whether your watering can is made of metal or plastic, it’s a question of style and taste, but also of weight, strength, and ease….. Plastic is certainly a much cheaper material, with greater flexibility and much lighter weight, which allows this material to better withstand shocks without piercing itself. But admit it, it’s less pretty and less solid over time.

So what is the point of choosing a metal watering can?

There is of course the aesthetic, and even decorative side. The charm of a zinc watering can is incomparable. If these watering cans are also very robust, they last over time and do not rust. Whether they are zinc, copper or galvanized steel, they all carry trace elements essential to man in small quantities. They also have a sanitizing effect on water. Zinc oxide has fungicidal and antiseptic properties. These are details that matter to anyone who wants the best for their plants!

An object that decorates your interiors!

Today, whether it is small, stylish or traditional, your grandparents’ watering can will find its place in your apartment, for its vintage, aesthetic and fashion aspects. Its surprising shape and refreshing colours make it an ultra trendy object to the point of competing with your flowerpots and other decorative objects. That’s how you can dust off such a classic garden tool !

  • Le retour de la lampe tempête The storm lamp is back !

Guillouard sounds triumphantly the return of the storm lamp of color and metal.

At the end of the summer, we were talking about our little kerosene lamps that we cherish so much, and today we are announcing the return of the storm lamp to our partner stores and on our website.

Patience and length of time are better than …

Our lamps are back with new colors, which you will love! Be aware that this early winter, the metal lamp, and all other colors are (almost) available. They are already strongly victims of their return since many Internet users are tearing them away already. Only the trendy green has yet to wait a little to discover the world of your homes.

But you must certainly wonder why, Guillouard stopped his production of oil lamps. This reason is explained by the decision of the city of Nantes to close the production plant, which has been in operation since 1911! But what would Guillouard be without his iconic model of an oil lamp? The return of the storm lamp could not be delayed any longer.

    The long trip!

Then, It was necessary to find another structure with real skills to revive our firefly production. This structure is located in Slovakia, and is lucky to have seen more than 200 machines enter its factory! Indeed, we wanted to keep a demanding quality and that is why we made this choice to send all our production machines in Slovakia. Then there were long months of training to keep intact the French know-how that has represented us for so long.

    She is back!

And as this association works miracles, we can now offer Luciole oil lamps, but we have also taken care to imagine new colors! And yes, the unparalleled style of our small lamps would be nothing without these colors that come to put a warm atmosphere in your rooms!

On menu, red, anthracite gray, trendy green … Noble and bright colors to dazzle your living spaces.

You will probably notice, we sell our iconic in two different packagings. The first is in kraft, environmentally friendly and purified of all text and explanations! The second is a gift box for the holidays of the end of the year. Take advantage of this format to place some lamps under the tree of your loved ones or under yours of course! The storm lamps will illuminate your Christmas with their magic.
